Would you be so kind as to specify what exactly "started to act up" is? What did it start doing, if possible in the order it occured please.

It stopped playing Guild Wars, is what I mean by it. I can do everything that I normally do without any problems-except play Guild Wars. I didn't consciously download any viruses or malware that would harm my computer at ANY point in time. And if I did, shouldn't it be affecting my other MMORPGs and programs? Not just GW.

There is some malware that can attack specific applications, game are big business in China.
Lets put Windows back to normal startup. Launch msconfig.exe again, on the "General" tab place a dot next to "Normal starup" then click OK and restart the computer.
It is looking like there may be a network configuration issue for your home network, like something was changed, it could be security settings or a virus. MSE is OK at malware detection but is is no where near the best.
Once you get back online I would like you to try the Windows7 Network connection trouble-shooter. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ems-in-windows

It appears everything is fine, drivers are up-to-date, modem is connecting to the internet (everything is connected). I guess I'll just try again tomorrow.
Thanks for all of the help though, everyone. I appreciate it.

If you have xfire or raptor it would be easer as we would be able to chat directly rather than by forum posts. But I understand your frustration, I had a simular issue occure and ended up reinstalling Win7.

It can be your virusscanner blocking Internet Access for GW. I had that with my McAfee once.

He might also be connecting to someone elses wireless router. Which is part of what the trouble-shooter has as a trouble-shooting step.

EXACT same problem
Hey, just wanted to reply to this, as I had the EXACT same problem, new fresh install of XP Pro SP3 which has Microsoft Security Essentials on it. Everything can connect but GW LOGIN! GW can connect, just cant log in.
So I did a -image and everything is fine, added GW to the exceptions in the Windows Firewall, but when I enter acct. and pass, it hangs on "Connecting"
I finally got it to connect by adding port 80 into the exceptions on the Windows Firewall, that was the only thing needed to get it to connect and login.
Hope you read this and/or got connected already

Sounds like you're experiencing the same thing others have been reporting this week, and that I'm running into currently. Please open formal support tickets with NCSoft to help them diagnose the issue. My situation's actually gotten worse. I can't even get to my characters now, it just hangs on "connecting" after I enter my password.
Sorry, I should have mentioned - this is not an issue with your machine. It's a network connectivity issue out in "the wild". I've been dealing with NCSoft telephone support for the last three days and they've added a peer in their Network Operations Center, but I'm gathering from the spreading stories of connectivity woes that something went wrong. They can't fix it if they don't know you're having problems, guys. Report those problems!

This was EXACTLY the problem I had, I put in password and it says "connecting" couldnt get to my characters.
I added an exception in the windows firewall to "add port" port 80 TCP (there were two choices, TCP and UP I think, it was the first choice)
after that I went in no problem.
My previous computer had Windows 2000 on it with no firewall, so I never had that issue before, same ISP, etc.. so I knew it was something specific to the machine. What you are describing is totally related to port 80
Also the "unfortunate" thing was that running -diag or the "test system" button everything passed (before I added the port 80 exclusion) so I received no help from the software.
I may in fact send a support ticket, because I dont like poking holes in firewalls to get things to work, however seeing as my last comp never even had a firewall, I am still way ahead over my last setup.

The odd thing about this "fix" you're mentioning is that port 80 is HTTP traffic, which is browser-based communications. It's not something I'd associate immediately with Guild Wars login errors.
The good news is that things seem to be working fine now. Whatever was happening they've fixed, as far as I can tell.

GW will try to tunnel on port 80 if it can't connect on it's preferred port.

LOL! Whatever they fixed for you, busted it for me, I cant connect anymore and I was coming back here to eat my words and admit you were right. Nothing changed on my machine except that my M$ security Essentials DL'd new signatures and now I am stuck on connecting.
Any Exp. with M$ Security Essentials being the culprit? its the only thing different between this comp and my old one, I can turn the firewall completely off and it has no effect on GW connecting

Having th same issue...
I've recently returned to gw from a 2 and a half year break about a week ago. I've had this issue twice already. I get stuck on the loading screen right after selecting a character and eventually throws an error 007 code. My connectivity is fine as I can connect to my web browser (chrome/firefox), I can connect to my steam games, as well as wow, and starcraft 2. I have added gw into my firewall settings to allow it to pass through although I didn't have to do this for the first few days until this issue popped up. The first time it seemed to resolve on its own? I've tried restarting the router multiple times as well as my computer. I've tried adding that port 80 that someone suggested, and no prevail. It's definitely not a hardware issue. I use a free version of Microsoft Forefront Client Security that was offered through my university (and no I'm not on the university's network as I live off campus - I think its thru At&t as we have u-verse, I just know its the best package they offer, because between 5 roommates we each pay like 30 bucks a month) - we're always downloading movies, music and games while still playing online games without the slightest hiccups in gameplay so idk wth is going on with gw.......just my lil story :P
